Indoor Soccer at NASA

Houston Town Futsal hosts 5v5 indoor soccer pickups in Clear Lake City at the gym inside Gilruth Center on the NASA Johnson Space Center facility. You never know, an astronaut crew could stop by for a game or two as part of their cardio training and team building before heading up into space.

Gilruth Center

The gym at NASA’s Gilruth Center / Starport is just off of NASA Road 1 and Space Center Blvd in Clear Lake City. Free parking is located at the parking lot directly in front of the facility entrance.

Southside RecPlex

This new, family-owned gym is located in a warehouse just minutes from NASA off of Bay Area Blvd. and Hwy 3 in Webster, TX. Southside RecPlex is our secondary futsal pickup location in the Clear Lake City area of Houston.

How We Play

Saturday pickups in Clear Lake and Webster are 5-a-side games that take key elements of futsal. Since this is pickup, we don’t play by official futsal rules, but we do play with a futsal ball.

Don't be dick (it's just pickup)
5v5 (5 field; no GK)
6'x4' soccer goals
1st Goal Wins (winner stays)
If tied after 4 minutes then two new teams

FAQs

Do you have to have a gilruth membership?

No, our indoor pickups at Gilruth Center does not require a membership to their gym. When you arrive, just let the front desk know that you are there for indoor soccer with Houston Town Futsal.

Can Anyone Play?

All adult coeds 18+ are welcome to play. Please keep in mind that most players do have previous soccer playing experience.

Does it Cost $ to Play?

Yes. Indoor pickup at Gilruth Center cost $10 to play. No credit/debit cards but cash and payment apps are accepted. If you’ve been to outer space, you play for free.

How do I sign up to play?

Please go to our Houston Town page on Meetup here to RSVP.

How are the Teams Formed?

Teams are randomly selected after you check in. Some people will come with one or two friends and request to play on the same team which is totally fine.

We provide soccer bibs so it’s easy to tell who is on which team.

Do I Need to Wear Shin Guards?

If you practice safe soccer then great, but you don’t have to wear them at pickup.

Is There Futsal for Kids?

Unfortunately, Houston Town does not currently offer youth futsal programs.

In the meantime, we can put you in touch with a local organization that is doing great things on the youth futsal front if you are having trouble finding one.

This is a very fun and organized pickup (5v5) indoor soccer/futsal. I recently joined the NASA campus location and what a cool place to play. I've enjoyed meeting other soccer fanatics in the area, socializing, and getting a mice workout in.

Love playing with the Houston Town Futsal crew. David does a wonderful job with organizing these games to where you have plenty of time to play and it’s fun/safe. I love that it even goes beyond the pick up games and there’s a community that has formed as well. Great competition and great people. Welcoming to beginners, but always a higher level of soccer. Highly recommend to anyone.

David is very organized, inclusive, efficient, and the perfect guy to be running pick-up for futsal. Only place in southeast that has futsal for adults . Best rate in Houston 10 bucks for 2 hours. Wish I would’ve known about this place before . Surface is great for futsal !

This is a very fun and organized pickup (5v5) indoor soccer/futsal. I recently joined the NASA campus location (Thursdays) and what a cool place to play. David, the organizer, is as friendly and welcoming as they come. I’ve enjoyed meeting other soccer fanatics in the area, socializing and getting a nice workout in. Reserve a spot early on the Meetup app as it tends to start filling up on the day of.
